Laura Linney's performance of weak and yet powerful characters has made her one of the top American actors. Her father was a celebrated playwright, but she was raised as a single child by her single-mother, a nurse. During the summers when she was with her father, Linney developed a passion for theater. Her first stage experience was initially in Brown University then at Juilliard School. After graduating from Brown University, she began making her Broadway debut in the following year. In the space of two years from the time, her debut film was released and the following year, her debut on television. She has appeared on numerous stages, films and television programs since. She's been nominated for three Oscar Awards, five Tony Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and received several awards during her time on the stage. While she has received numerous awards throughout her career, theatre has always been her first interest.
